Costa Rica ranks highest among Central American countries

According to 2007/2008 U.N. human development report released this week Costa Rica ranks highest among all Central American countries.  It even outranks Mexico by four positions.  The report takes into account areas such as life expectancy, educational levels, GDP per capita and others to rank over 175 U.N. member countries.

 

This year Iceland has overtaken Norway, which held top spot for 6 years, to take the first place.  United States which scores very high on real per capita GDP basis slipped to 12th place from eighth last year.
