Affordable

Many people have a dream of owning a vacation home, weather it is a condo, a house or just a piece of land.  Most people however, even the middle class, can not afford properties in most sunny destinations such as Florida, Arizona, California or southern Europe.  And it is not just being able to buy a property, the ongoing cost such as property taxes, maintenance fees and other expenses make it prohibitive for most people.

If you are retired then you will also need to consider your monthly budget.  Most likely you have fixed income which needs to accommodate a lifestyle to which you are accustomed to.  We will cover this topic in more detail in the Cost of Living section but for now it is sufficient to say that affordability encompasses both initial capital outlay to buy a property, as well as the ongoing expenses.

So how does one make a dream of owning a place a reality?  How does one stretch their hard earned income without sacrificing their lifestyle?  The answer is Costa Rica!!!

Did you know that you can still buy real estate in this beautiful paradise for a fraction of what you would pay for a similar property at home?  In fact, you can still buy a condo near the beach for under $100,000.  We are not talking about a time share or fractional ownership either.  This is a place you own outright.  You can live there year around or use it any time you want.  You can even earn rental income if you are not using it all the time.  You can even buy it for investment purposes or until the day you are finely ready to retire.

What about carrying costs and ongoing expenses you may ask?  Again you will pay a fraction of what a Florida condo will cost you.  For example, maintenance fees for a 2 bedroom condo will be approximately $150 per month and property taxes will be another $100 per year.  That is right, $100 per year not per month… compared to thousands of dollars for a condo in Florida.

Hopefully you are starting to see that a lifestyle you have dreamed of is certainly possible.  Not only can you afford a lifestyle you are accustomed to; you may enjoy it fully, knowing that it is not costing you an arm and a leg.  Read on to discover more about Costa Rica’s cost of living.
